The Nottingham in Parliament Day initiative aimed to highlight why Nottingham is a great place to do business and the exciting talent and innovation here.

Brexit Britain Needs Talent: Universities, Employers and the UK Global Graduate

As the country navigates our way to Brexit, we explore the challenges and opportunities the evolving global marketplace offers the UK’s top graduates and employers. Join Neil Carmichael, Chair of the Education and Skills Select Committee, Baroness Brenda Dean, former CEO of Rolls-Royce John Rishton and senior leaders from business and policy to discuss how the UK might best ensure new graduates have the skills and opportunity to succeed.

Midlands Engine Breakfast: How Can Nottingham Drive the Midlands Engine?

Join the CEOs of some of Nottingham and the East Midlands’ biggest businesses, civic and university leaders and politicians for a senior, invitation-only roundtable to discuss Nottingham’s role in shaping the wider regional agenda in the context of a new Government Industrial Strategy for the UK.

Export or Die: UK Exporters in a Post-Brexit World

Increasing exports is crucial to the health of the UK economy. With a British exit from the European Union expected within the next years, the future holds new challenges and opportunities for our exporters. Chaired by Rt. Hon. Sir Vince Cable, and featuring former Rolls-Royce CEO, John Rishton, this panel brings together experts from academia, business and politics to look at options for improving UK export performance in a post-Brexit world.

 

NTU Thinkubator Challenge & Women in Leadership Roundtable Event

Nottingham Trent University’s Thinkubator Challenge, based on its successful and unique model, will see students collaborate to solve some of the toughest challenges currently facing Government and the economy, such as issues around social mobility, industrial strategy and transportation – and all of this in just a morning. Whilst students are getting to grips with these topics, the University will also host a roundtable discussion on Women in Leadership, with a live link back to students in Nottingham so they can contribute to the discussion.

A celebration of talent as students present the results of their Thinkubator Challenge – solving the challenges submitted by politicians.

Pitching to Parliament: The Next Generation of University of Nottingham Entrepreneurs

The hour-long event will feature 3 businesses, chosen by Experian, and members of The Ingenuity Lab. The Ingenuity Lab is The University of Nottingham’s student and alumni entrepreneurship centre, and part of the Haydn Green Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (HGI). They demonstrate a cross section of the innovative businesses currently being developed, or trading, within the Ingenuity Lab in Nottingham. The businesses will pitch their ideas to a specialist panel including Rt. Hon. Anna Soubry MP, and representatives from Experian and HGI.  At the end of the three pitches a winner will be selected and win a prize provided by Experian. This event is the start of a partnership between Experian and the Ingenuity Lab. The aim is to stimulate greater economic development in Nottingham by developing greater numbers of high value businesses being founded by The University of Nottingham students and alumni.

Nottingham in Parliament Day Express

Courtesy of East Midlands Trains, a delegation of local celebrities, civic dignitaries and businesspeople will join the media in taking the early train down to Westminster to show off the best of Nottingham. By invitation only. Guests will enjoy a breakfast prepared by Michelin-starred Chef Sat Bains and live entertainment. Confirmed guests include Paul Southby (Chairman, Marketing Nottingham and Nottinghamshire), Cllr Alan Rhodes (Leader, Nottinghamshire County Council), Candida Brundenell (Assistant Chief Executive, Nottingham City Council) and Cllr Jackie Morris (Sheriff of Nottingham).
