Renewable energy is getting cheaper – much cheaper. By the time the new Hinkley Point C nuclear power station comes online, even offshore wind and solar panels will produce cheaper electricity than the promised subsidised minimum price. While the UK has more than enough solar and wind resource to meet our energy needs, to harness its potential we need new and better ways to ensure that energy reaches consumers when they need it. We explore how the storage of energy – before the point of generation into electricity - can provide the high performance and low cost solution which could spark the step-change in take up of renewables.
